
STOLEN : YORK STONE & PURBECK (SUSSEX WINKLE) SLABS
Stolen from Arundel area, West Sussex on 26 Aug 08
Item : Two lots of paving was stolen from the Arundel area between 26 August 08 and 3 Oct 08.
Lot 1:
A group of reclaimed York stone paving stones dug up from a path Sizes and image available on request
Lot 2: A small amount of reclaimed Purbeck slabs stored and waiting for interior use. Purbeck stone is sometimes called Sussex Winkle or Sussex "marble". However it is limestone and known for the small fossilized shells sometimes seen on its surface. Centuries ago it was mined in the Petworth area and is sometimes still found as interior flag stones or hearth stones in West Sussex houses over a certain age. These slabs are unusual and hard to find, so if you have been offered any recently under suspicious circumstances, please contact Arundel Police at the number above
